Welcome to Orchestra

Welcome to Orchestra!

All Grade 6 Music students participate in the orchestra on one of the following instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, percussion, or violin.

The majority of students are staying on the instrument they started in Grade 5. This is best for the conceptual understanding and progress of the individual as well as the quality of the performance they put together as an ensemble.

We will begin the year with fundamental review. As we progress, we will rehearse large ensemble music. We will continue to have units of inquiry as well. The students will investigate composition, communication, and performance.

IICS provides an instrument and method book for each student. That said, it is essential that the instruments to cared for throughout the year. They should be cleaned and cased properly after each use.

Each student will need to submit a “borrowing agreement” form will be distributed in band during the second full week of school. The instruments are returned and the teacher will complete an inventory at the end of every academic year.

Following Grade 6, if a student wishes to continue their instrument studies, they should contact a private tutor and purchase their own instrument.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year in orchestra with the Grade 6 students! We hope to see you at our first performance on January 29th!
